ok, so i am seeing this word "rawk" a lot, and i know i am probably the responsible person for such gratuitous use of it, B U T that word had a special meaning. it was what "rock" should mean. it is about not compromising and never selling out (in whatever sense you can imagine). socrates is the first Rawk Star. he didn't sell out, and chose death over selling out. a rock star sells out for fame, money, and superficial crap.
maynard (a perfect circle) = rock star (though the music rocks)
maynard (tool) = Rawk Star
when billy used it in the concert in holland, he said the smashing pumpkins were "prog rawk" and he spelled it that way. that was 92 or 93. that word got tossed around a lot in the smashing pumpkins realm by their fans. later used in a lot of bootlegs. however, i never heard billy use it again or reference it. he said it about the pumpkins before siamese dream came out, so at the time, they were "Rawk" stars. now he's a mere "rock star". tori amos pre-choirgirl is a Rawk Star. being a Rawk Star is not about the music. it is about the person. henry rollins is a Rawk Star. Bill Hicks is a Rawk Star (though he is dead - and because he died a Rawk Star, he gets to eternally remain one because he didn't sell out).
i am sure everyone has someone in mind for a "Rawk Star". i know there's a few neil gaiman (sp) fans around here, so they probably would add him to the list. but for me, Rawkin' is about not compromising and N E V E R selling out, under no circumstances, not even to save your own life or someone else's. if you do, you're not a Rawk Star anymore. a painter who paints the painting because she or he thinks it might sell has sold out. do for the sake of doing, and no other reason is the realm of the Rawk Star.
ok, i am done now.
