It's stuff like this that makes you wonder what the hell is the point of all the fighting in the world? This bit of land's mine, this ideology is better than that, this natural resource belongs to us etc... And then mother-nature simply goes 'f**kit' and wipes out whole families, communities and cities within minutes. And yet despite the astonishing amount of money raised in aid so far, you know full well that leaders of the western world will do virtually nothing to help. $20m? Big Fat Hairy deal, the USA spent $400m on weapons alone last year...does anyone believe that these 'enlightened' countries will spend any more than is necessary to ease their guilty conscience? Sorry to get political, but this more than anything puts a massive amount of perspective on the way we live these days.

An 18-month-old Kazakh baby, apparently unharmed, has been found in Thailand’s Khao Lak tourist resort in southern Phang-Nga province which was devastated by the killer tsunami last Sunday.
The baby, who was discovered floating on a mattress in the sea by an Indian national a few days ago, was handed over to the Kazakh ambassador on Saturday.
It was not until Saturday that officials were alerted to the discovery of the young survivor by the rescuer who had been caring for the baby for the past few days. The little one was in good health, sources said. ---------------------------------------------------------------
truly a miracle!

yeah...there was also this little girl who was already in a mortuary, but they discovered she was still alive. She lost her mother and sister, but her grandfather, who thought he had lost everyone, picked her up from the hospital. It was heartbreaking to watch it.
And about the 18 month year old kid...his parents are most likely to be dead...at least that's what the news said over here. Each time I watch the news my heart breaks. The stories, the loss, the pain...
sigh

Sorry to get political, but this more than anything puts a massive amount of perspective on the way we live these days. it is now 350 million from the US i believe. they got too much pressure because we are spending 40 million an hour in iraq. that's right 40 MILLION AN HOUR! of course it wasn't out of the goodness of their hearts or because they believed it to be the thing to do, it is because of PRESSURE. how sick is that?

I saw a scary BBC documentary yesterday....some scientists said that for example when volcanic islands collapse because of an eruption and big piles of rock etc. plunge into the ocean at great speed it can cause a mega-tsunami. The island of La Palma (Canary Islands) can cause a big risk cause if one of the volcanoes on it erupts and a part of the island collapses it can cause a mega-tsunami that will wipe out the entire east coast of the US! ...they were talking about a wave that was more than 500 meters high! They didn't know if and when it would happen...could be during the next eruption or a couple of thousand years from now...
